Don't believe for a moment that there is a trick or a magic formula to making affiliate marketing work on your blog. You know right away that there is no such thing.

As long as your blog has a decent number of visitors and valuable content, you can successfully start affiliate marketing.

What is an affiliate program?

An affiliate program is a specific program whose product offers you can promote on the Internet. Large businesses use affiliate programs to offer extra sales channels and revenue.

You automatically get a unique affiliate link when you sign up for a company's affiliate program.

By promoting an affiliate link on your blog, review (review), or video, you receive a commission from the company whenever someone clicks on that link and makes a purchase through it.

Affiliate links can be recognized by the embedded part "ref" or "referrer." This addendum provides the company with information to whom it owes a sales commission.

You certainly don't want to choose just any product. When you become an affiliate partner of a program or network, you should focus on quality instead of quantity.

Before that, it is best to do a little research on the company you want to recommend. It is essential because you are using a personal brand, so everything should fit in with your values.

Choose products that fit your market niche.

Let's say - that you create educational content on your blog for entrepreneurs who want to be successful on social networks. Then you add links to your content from your favorite massage parlor or hair salon.

It can automatically turn off readers. Why?

Because your blog is educational and this recommendation does not fit the topic of your blog. It is necessary to carefully choose the product or service that is closest to your niche.

However, if you can be creative and fit your content into mentioning the product from the example - nothing is impossible.

1. Choose a product that you have used yourself

I know it can seem tempting to promote a course you haven't taken or a book you haven't read. I think it's best to resist the urge to recommend products you have no experience with and haven't used.

In this case, it can confuse the audience.

Regardless of how a product or service helped you - it's best to share that experience and your story with your readers.

2. Affiliate program commission

The commission is usually defined as a percentage of the sale of the affiliate company's product or service.

It happens with some of the affiliate programs (often with web hosting) that the commission represents a certain fixed amount.

In connection with the commission, you may encounter the following situations:

• If you sell more products - the commission increases.
• Within one program, the commission may be different for each product. Also, products with high prices (which are more difficult to sell) may have a higher commission.
• The commission for physical products is usually low (compared to digital products) and fluctuates around 4%.
• There may be some benefits for new members.

For each affiliate program, check the total percentage of the amount you should receive.

3. Terms of the affiliate program regarding payment

Affiliate companies usually pay once a month, although there are exceptions.

If you want monthly payments - choose companies with this condition.

When it comes to payment, with some companies, there is a requirement that the affiliate partner reaches a certain amount of money before receiving payment.

It obligates members to earn up to a certain threshold to access their money (usually $50 or $100).

4. Duration of cookies in the affiliate program

Another essential factor in the selection is the lifetime of affiliate cookies.

The cookie's duration means the time that elapses from the first click on your affiliate link until the purchase.

For you as an affiliate partner - this time should be as long as possible. Any affiliate program can be less engaging if the lifetime of cookies is short.

Usually, the duration of cookies is about 60 days. When choosing an affiliate program, pay attention to the cookie policy.{alertInfo}

I will give the example of eBay, which I know is specific compared to other affiliate programs in terms of cookie duration. eBay operates according to a system of auctions that generally last 7 days.

To earn a commission here, someone would have to click on your link and make a purchase on the last day of the auction. In any other case, you will remain without commission.

Before you start promoting any company's products, you should be sure that the company's values match your core values and brand purpose.

Also, pay attention to whether these brands have had a bad reputation because this will have an impact on your brand when you promote their products.
